Laptops Transform DIL Classrooms

DIL’s Laptops for Schools project recently provided 20 schools from Lower Dir, Khairpur, Mansehra and Sheikhupura with laptops for students—an affordable, easy-to-use and convenient alternative to computer labs. The laptops were pre-loaded with subject-specific multimedia, interactive learning programs, and in some cases internet-enabled.
“Laptops for Schools” is a 15-month project aimed at improving the quality of primary education in the underserved schools of rural Pakistan through the use of high-quality multimedia learning materials. Most of Pakistan’s rural schools are not able to benefit from modern learning aids, as they do not have access to computers or other educational technologies. Access to technology is not the only challenge—the majority of primary school teachers are not well trained, resulting in low quality of education.

The project received funding from the P&G Alumni Foundation, among others, and combined benefitted over 3,000 students at these campuses. Research and experience shows that a robust IT program unleashes the students’ curiosity and confidence; plus it builds competency in 21st century skills.
